From success half way around the world, Canadian born singer Raghav first came onto the Canadian national radar in 2007 when the Globe and Mail profiled him as one of “Canada’s best kept secrets in the arts”. The Calgarian has indeed been a ‘well kept secret’ but that depends a great deal on where you were living.
If you had been living in London, England, you would know Raghav sold an impressive 1.3 million copies of his debut album Storyteller (released in 2004 on A&R Records). You would also know that he won a MOBO Award for Best Collaboration, and two UK Asian Music Awards for Best Newcomer and Best Single. In 2005 he also won an Urban Music Award for Best Chart Act.
If you had been living in India you would know that Storyteller was the 6th best selling international album of all time for the Indian territory. You would also be familiar with his sophomore album, Identity (released through Universal in India), would know that he had a #3 charted single, and that he had won a Southern Asian Music Award for Best Artist, and an Asian Achievers Award. You also might have seen him on his world tour where he headlined and sold out stadiums such as the Rogers Centre in Toronto to the Shrine Auditorium in LA, not to mention mega stadiums in Kenya, India, Pakistan throughout the Middle East and of course the UK.
So Much was produced by Labrinth (#1 single in the UK “Pass Out” – Tinie Tempah) and features fellow Canadian Kardinal Offishall, it earned Raghav a Juno nomination for Soul/R&B Recording of the Year.
The follow up single, Fire, produced Timbaland's right hand man Jim Beanz (Britney Spears, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake etc) has been played relentlessly on radio stations across Canada and was recently certified Gold by Music Canada. It spent over 20 weeks on Billboard Canada's Hot 100, and 44 weeks on Billboard's Emerging Canadian Artist charts. It also earned Raghav nominations for CHR and Hot AC Single Of The Year at the Canadian Radio Music Awards. It has been featured on numerous television shows including Battle of the Blades and So You Think You Can Dance.
"Fire" was a collaboration between Raghav and super-producer Jim Beanz, known for his work as Timbaland's right-hand-man, and his writing and production for Rihanna, Demi Lovato and Shakira. Raghav and Jim have teamed up again on Raghav's newest single "WOOHOO"!
Recently Raghav has done some major international collabos such as Until The Sun Comes Up with Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan & US singer/rapper Nelly. Raghav also sang for Shah Rukh Khan in the Yash Raj Films' Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
